Purchasing¬†a rental property is a great investment, if you buy the right one(s)! There is a lot to consider when purchasing a rental property. Consider things like the neighbourhood it’s in and the type of tenants it will attract. Is it near schools (being close to the college will attract college students as renters)? Is it a high crime area? Is it close to amenities, like shopping, recreation facilities, transit, etc? What is the amount of vacancies and/or listings in the area? If it is quite high, there may be problems with attracting tenants to this area. Read this article for Top 10 Features Of A Profitable Rental Property.

How To Get Rid Of Or Cut Down On Mosquito Populations Around Red Deer!

Spring has sprung! Well, mostly… While we are all excited for Spring, new growth and yard clean up, the mosquitos also seem to be excited for Spring! I have definitely seen some flying around out there, especially at dusk. While you are doing your yard clean up, it is important to do your part in cutting down on mosquito breeding grounds. You can do this by making sure there isn’t any standing/stagnant water on your property, including buckets, in kids toys, rain barrels should be covered, bird baths, uncovered boats, plant pot trays, swimming pool covers, wheel barrows, sluggish drainage ditches, leaky faucets, etc. You should also check your eaves troughs (rain gutters) to make sure they are not clogged.

There are also natural mosquito repellants and control measures that you can use. Certain essential oils like lemongrass, citronella and eucalyptus have been known to help repel mosquitos. Click here for a homemade, all natural bug spray. You can also plant certain plants in your yard that keep the pesky buggers away, like Lemon Thyme, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Basil, Lemongrass, Catnip, Rosemary, Garlic and Marigolds.

Spring Yard Clean Up in Red Deer!

Spring Yard Clean Up in Red Deer!

Now that everything is starting to bloom, bud and turn green, it is time to think about your yard clean up, if you haven’t already done so! Get all that old grass raked up so your lawn looks nice and fresh, clean up your flower beds/gardens and tidy up your trees! After you’ve got that all done, what to do with all your yard waste? The City of Red Deer has a Yard Waste program. For 1 week in the spring and 1 week in the fall, it is free to drop yard waste off at the Waste Management facility for free! This spring the free week is May 4-9. It must only be yard waste (grass, tree branches, leaves, etc.), no garbage or plastic bags! You can also set your yard waste out on your usual garbage day, clearly marked (you can get a sticker for your garbage can at City Hall, Collicutt Centre, Recreation Centre, Dawe Centre or Environmental Services) and it will be picked up weekly from April 13-November 13.
